I'm currently getting the same crash while trying to get the game to work on Mac OS X. I believe it's an OpenGL issue. I don't currently have a solution for this, but hopefully I'll figure it out soon.

But someone else was recently having trouble running Ascii Sector on Linux Mint 17.3:

Can you run Ascii Sector on your Linux Mint setup?

EDIT: I see that you're running the game with ./hiddenasset. Can you try running it with ./hiddenassetdebug to see if we get some more information in the terminal when it crashes? Also, is there any usable information in the log.txt?

With ./hiddenassetdebug, same result :

Code: [Select]
./hiddenassetdebug

An unhandled exception occurred at $00007F13A8109E49 :
EAccessViolation : Access violation
  $00007F13A8109E49
  $00000000006204A9

The log.txt :

Code: [Select]
Setting up video...
OK
Setting up timers...
OK
Setting up audio...
OK
Opening audio channels...
OK
Loading sounds...
OK
Setting up window...
OK
Setting up OpenGL...
OK
Setting up framebuffer objects...
OK
Setting up offscreen rendering for smooth screen scaling...
OK

(edit : i tried the Windows version, with WINE, and it works, it seems i can play)

Ok. Definitely looks like an OpenGL issue. I'm going to try making a change to the OpenGL code for the Linux 64-bit version. I'll post a link to an executable you can try out in a couple of minutes...

Here's a new 'hiddenassetdebug' executable. Try replacing the current one with this one and see if that changes anything.

hiddenassetdebug.tar.gz (3.6 MB)

Oh, nice! Please also try the new Linux executable I uploaded, though. ;D

With the new launcher, same :

Code: [Select]
./hiddenassetdebug

An unhandled exception occurred at $00007F13A8109E49 :
EAccessViolation : Access violation
  $00007F13A8109E49
  $00000000006204A9

With the Windows version under WINE, i could end the first mission, and arrived to the second mission, but it's time to get some sleep.

Would you mind giving the new v0.5.1 a try on your Linux system? I think I've fixed the crashing bug.

You can download it here.

Hi

I wasn't home until now.

I tried with the new files, for Linux 64bits, and it seems to work nicely now, both from double-clic or the Terminal, without any error message so far.

Thanks for support !
