Starflight, Starflight 2, and maybe the upcoming Void of Darkness are more my speed. I guess Protostar mentioned above is the closest relative to those.

Space Station 13 is a fun MMO on a space station. SUPER in-depth, you choose your job, ship is fully destroyable, LOTS of content from bombs to welding the walls out. There are different game modes in which multiple people are chosen like being a traitor, syndicate agent, blob, alien, other fun stuff. I've had lots of fun on it with friends. the top servers have 70 to 80 players on them on one space station. Pretty fun. Here is the Website:

Old thread, but I feel necromancy is OK on this forum right now ;)

To tide me over until Christian finishes with this Hidden Asset thing and goes back to his real job of developing AS, I have started following Drifter http://www.celsiusgs.com/drifter/. It too is a 2D space trading game under development (although it uses 3D graphics). It still can't compare with AS for gameplay (and it isn't free). I hope the dev can focus more on gameplay as he starts forming it into a final product.

IMHO what made Ascii Sector so great was the familiar systems and a feeling you got to know the Sector. With Drifter, you have an entire universe to explore with many 100's of systems. It also currently lacks the on-planet experience too. I loved how with AS, you could walk around on a planet's surface and interact with people. You had to find the fixers instead of going through a menu. (And if you didn't like the job they offered, you could always give him a good stiff beating  ;D) When you fully leveled up your kick, one could wage war on an entire planet, all by themselves.

...But enough recollecting. Back to waiting.
