Some content suggestions
« on: June 20, 2010, 07:21:53 PM »
Something I read in another suggestion got me to this idea.

Planets:
How about a kilrathi planet that houses a military installation. You might get merc or confed missions to retrieve something from there or kill a named cat or something.

Another idea to the already mentioned arena planet or fight clubs would be a jungle world where you can hunt game for furs or pets.

Missions:
How about a merc mission to recapture captured merchant ships? Kill its pirate escort, disable it and kill the pirate hijackers - release the captured crew and escort it to the nearest jump point/planet.

Or for fixers, help them capture a merchant vessel. They fly with you as passengers, you help them disable the ship and dispatch the crew and they take over from there.

Additionaly Id realy love to see some expansion to the handheld equipment part of the game.

- MedKits to treat your wounds
- Some sort of sneak attack weapon that lets you assasinate a target without getting everyone mad at you.
- a larger variety of melee weapons (kilrathi claw blades?)
- kilrathi body armor
- a stun gun or rifle
- a gas granade that knocks out your oppnents (much welcome to storm small ships)
- unique items that are very hard to come by (and only rumored to exist)

Ship equipment:

Some non standard equipment for ships. Maybe decrease the amount of equipment one can buy from the ship dealers or make them progressive so that you cant buy a level 5 engine and fusion gun from anybody. Non standard equipment could be a pirate disabler gun (as mentioned in another thread) or maybe kilrathi weapons, armor that you can loot if you capture one of their ships (or IFF transponders) with whom you can fake beeing a cat or pirate - maybe make it a requirement to land on pirate bases to own such a transponder - and dont use it if you kill pirates or your ID code might get blacklisted as your normal one is - and dont use it near militia or confed or they will attack you.

Miscelaneous:

An air lock or other possibility to restrain people you just scooped abourd. They sould not be capable of running around your ship whithout you letting you into it. I once had a scooped pirate kill one of my retro prisoners. And they realy should not have direct access to your cockpit at least (the door should only open if you walk to it).

That's what custom quests are for.

Otherwise, some interesting ideas. Though if it were my decision, I wouldn't give the Kilrathi (or Retros, for that matter) any "home" worlds or fixed bases. I think their incursions need to be more or less unpredictable and their numbers / strength / strategies a mystery.

Though I hear Admin is slightly different plans for a future phase of his project.
Retros tick me off!

@Quest Items
Well I had more the idea of finding them per chance. Or having bartenders (in a 1:100 chance) giving you a tip where to find object X. Some kind of a treasure hunt (like in Sid Meiers: Pirates!). Like: Bartender:"Some old merc told me the other day, that during a fight with some kilrathi he came by a large asteroid near XXX and his sensors gave him a strange reading. Unfortunatly his Nav Computer was fried in the battle and he could not find it". So if you are near XXX the next time you could try to find that asteroid (might be a larger one that only has a 1:10 chance to spawn) after you got the bartender dialogue. On shooting it you may find something interesting.

Considering that the original privateer had retro planets, its not a completly novel idea on my part.

As the kilrathi are a legit Empire and not just some marauders Id love to see them get some more design attention, as that would greatly enrich the atmosphere. When it comes to retros, even if it is against their techaversion, maybe they operate from a ship (much like the casino ship).

I like the idea of a "surprise attack" weapon, maybe a sniper rifle? But the rifle and the ammunition would have to be pricey and the cooldown/reload time would need to be high to balance it out.

I like this idea.

By the way, MedKits are on the way, at leas I think so, since we discussed it a lot a few months back.

As for Kilrathi weapons, I think the only way to obtain them should be to board a ship, as it is now.

I posted a little something on kilrathi body armor a while back:
Kilrathi actually looking like aliens?

That was my idea too. It wouldnt make much sense if they were readily available at shops. Getting some of the Kilrathi gear should be quite difficult. Maybe some specific weapons like small sidearm weapons (kilrathi gun) should only be carried by the captain of a Kamekh.
