Its turn based but there are abilities that can be used, like focus and taunt. Its  not too bad. The game also gives campaign ribbons medals and rank for completed missions. I'm enjoying it

After over 10 years of looking, I finally found the game that got me into ASCII Sector! It's called Space Trader, it was a Palm OS game I played on a Platoon mates Palm Pilot in Kuwait in 2002. Last night I found Java version on source forge! AWESOME!

There is similar game:
Smugglers V

I tried it and it looks really good. I'm sorry for made you new addiction... :hehe:

Smugglers requires .1 GHz more than my new laptop puts out and a $10 price tag and I'm short on cash... Grr.... Verdammt!!! I just might go ahead and buy it...

Sadly you did make for me a new obsession.

VFP:

In my experience, Noctis is quite difficult to get running on any 64-bit Windows. Best approach is either DoxBox with Cycles turned to max, and then run it via the Noctis executable in the Modules Folder. Second best is to make a DOS boot USB, using something like FreeDOS, and run it the same way.

And GoG is great for a single reason; no DRM. I've had issues with Steam when my internet goes down. :/

Might have to give both a try. And yeah, love the no DRM.

SPACE TRADER UPDATE!!!
I'm flying a Grasshopper.

I've sold 10,000cr worth of Tribbles, slain the space monster, stopped the scientist from ripping a hole in Space/Time, Destroyed the Experimental ship, flown the Ambassador back home. Now I'm just flying from system to system disabling pirate ships and looting them for pure profit (insert Star Trek reference here)

I have the Haggling computer, the fuel compactor, the Lightning shield

I'm considered a Hero, have a net worth of 251,720cr, 89 kills and 17 angry Kingpins

Abandonia is not trying to trick anybody into donation. You can download without any donation. They just trying to get some money for servers only...

That's interesting cause every time I've tried to download something from abandonia I get a donation screen I can't bypass.

GOG sometimes has bonus materials that may be interesting to someone that already has the thing,

[Plug]I have quite a library from GOG, including Uplink, Deus Ex GOTY Edition, Duke Nukem 3D, Sniper Elite Berlin 1945, Dungeon Keeper, Myst: Masterpiece Edition, the Original Syndicate, Total Annihilation Commanders Pack (I have the original CD-ROMs but this way I can play without them), and newer games like Torchlight and Symphony. Iltsuger is correct that some games come with really cool extras. Games you can't find of sites like Abandonia (which is now trying to trick you into donating to download). They have other non-old school games as well
[/Plug]
Anyways, didn't mean to incite a battle.

I think you may have found my replacement for Noctis.

I think I tried Noctis but couldn't get it to run?

Yeah, Asciisector on the cellphone would open up this game for a whole new market. But we must have touched on that subject before?

I believe we did a few years ago. But I think a mobile user would need a smartphone with a slide out keyboard to play AS. They have Space Trader and clones for iOS and Android.

Heh, I've been playing the same save since GLI posted the link for the .NET version. Its a great "coffee" game (by coffee I mean cleanse the palate) between Minecraft, the facebook my fiancee's friend got me into and all my GOG games... And of course my gritty reboot of AS.

This was mainly for nostalgia value. It was because of Space Trader I came across AS.

Additional note: If you come across the Dr Fehlder (i think) mission. Make sure you finish it or you'll end up jumping all over the place. Its annoying.

Nope, you're wrong! Sundog: Frozen Legacy (1984) is "grand-daddy" for Ascii Sector. It was mentioned here by Iltsuger...

Ah, well I can't always be right. Space Trader was my first space trading simulator. But thats cool, I hope they get that beta the Sondog remake up and running.

Oh! Win installer (MSI) is older (2.0) then ZIP version (2.01):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/spacetraderwin/files/spacetraderwin/2.01/

Awesome! I just downloaded it a little bit ago, and I'm playing it now. Much better than the Java one. Thanks.

Ascii Sector is better because it has "free roaming and boarding". Playing "Space Trader" long time (more then one-two days) feels like playing Solitaire - it's boring...

Yeah AS does give a more personal feel. I've playing Space Trader since I found it, lost no interest yet. Maybe its the ADD. 8)

I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) Space Trader is the grand-daddy of our ASCII Sector. It doesn't offer the interaction with NPCs and environments that AS does. But its just as addicting.

Custom ships. Custom ships! CUSTOM SHIPS!!! And quests... and fighting pirates for loot...

I take it you'd love to have a custom ships option in AS GLI? Glad to see you found the working version of Space Trader.

My apologies. Yeah the windows version doesn't have a working link but the Java version does.

There ya go. Happy trading!
Its a very simple interface, you can buy an escape pod and attack ships. It focuses mostly on trading.
