There's a comic for everything in life...

I call your PhD and raise an xkcd. And another.

So that's why I didn't recognize that video. Crazy! I'd love to see the source code to do that

You know you can watch any movie in black-and-white or color asciiart with mplayer right?

Last I checked (has been a while, I don't use it normally), VLC even had that as an option in the GUI. (VLC is mplayer-based, afaik.)

Considering how YT only offered it for a few videos (I guess the most popular ones), I think they pre-rendered those however, not implement it in the player. So they probably used the mplayer filter. :)

Oh, I didn't get an ASCII filter... Maybe it's not a worldwide YouTube thing?

Think it is. Otherwise, we're usually the first ones who are left out in Germany. ;)

No "TEXTp" in the resolution switcher, either? (See also.)

How about Privateer: Ascii° Sector then?

PS: A friend pointed out that maybe I should have called the original link "Ascii Sector HD", because "it adds a whole lot of resolution for FREE". ;)

PPS: "Ascii Sector - now with 4xAA!"?

PPPS: Feel free to delete this thread tomorrow. The title might cause some confusion in the future.

Sorry for wasting your time then. Maybe I am really the only one who finds it hilarious to watch a video of a game that uses ascii art through an ascii filter and calling it ascii²...

First of all, I agree that there's no actual bug, i.e. something causing problems with gameplay. However...

The hidden compartments automatically get used they way you'd want them to.

I see. So say I have a Tarsus, and buy 2 hidden compartments, and then 50 units of grain, when I had my compartment back in version 4.7 (haven't used them since) my cargo manifest would say 48 units grain in cargo +2 in hidden.

That imho shouldn't happen. The hidden compartments should never be used for legal cargo, unless there's no more free space in non-hidden cargo units.

Yes, as soon as you actually need the hidden ones, AS will properly reorganize the cargo. But I still think this would be confusing.

I gotta say that I'm surprised I never noticed this. But I'm also too lazy to test it right now, sorry. ;)

Maybe it had 50 units of cargo space, but 62 passenger seats, so the pilot and his 62 passengers dressed in 63 furs right away and stored the other 50 in cargo.

However, still a bug regarding the 62 passenger seats then. ;)

With the opportunities the quest-writing thingy gives us now, it would already be possible to 100% re-enact games like 'The Secret of Monkey Island' (minus the graphics) - and that's with the branching dialogues and custom items alone.

Oh screw you! You just want to seduce me into writing a ScummToAS converter. Don't you know that I can never resist these challenges? :D

To be honest I never played Privateer mainly because it was before my time. Now I've pretty much given up on making DosBox play the damn thing.

Whoa... you use Linux too? Sweet!  :D

Uuuh, Dosbox is available on lots of platforms, you know...

I'm using it on Windows, for example.

It's good for 3D modeling, and it can render ray-traced JPEG images also.

Of course you now know better and would never use JPEG in combination with raytracing again, right? Right??? :D

Works like a charm for me with SB16 sound/music and <25% CPU usage (1.6Ghz single-core). Did you read the notes on the compatibility entry for Privateer?

Feel free to contact me on the Ascii Sector IRC channel if you want some help setting it up.

Actually, is there any way to see the name of your current ship? I've been thinking that it could be a good thing if this information was available when I connect to the shipyard computer-terminal.

Good point, but I'd rather like to see it on the Quine somewhere.

Ph3nIx, maybe it would help if you could record a video (possible inside Ascii Sector) of the situation and upload it. That way we could discuss about the same situation instead of guessing. :)
