Bugs / NPCs can stun you by punching your arm.
« on: June 27, 2012, 02:39:21 AM »
This happened during a fight inside my ship, and my character was completely unskilled in unarmed combat if that helps.

Edit: Also I didn't get stunned anymore at all afterwards, even after getting punched in the face a few times... Weird.

Everything Else / NEW OFFICIAL WIKI UP AND RUNNING!!!
« on: June 25, 2012, 08:42:14 PM »
Since the old wiki has been dead for almost two years now and nobody did anything about it, I decided to take the initiative and start a new one. This is an attempt to pick up from where the old wiki left off and recover most of its content. Unlike the old one however, this one will use a more reliable host and be open to everyone for editing. So far there are only 10 pages which I've done, but if we have the entire community contribute to this then we can probably do some amazing things.

The only requirement to begin editing is to create a free wikia account, so if you want to help out here's the link to the new wiki!
http://asciisector.wikia.com

If you do decide to help then that's great! Here's an archive of the old wiki and a to-do list to get you started.

Everything Else / Where should I go after Visual Basics?
« on: May 15, 2011, 06:45:32 PM »
I know this forum is kinda dying but I'll post here to keep it active. I'm getting bored of VB, so I need another programming language that's easy and fast to learn. I only want advice from programmers though lol but feel free to discuss this topic, thanks.

Why don't equipment stores have bulletproof glass counters, and why don't the shopkeepers have their own guns for self defence? In real life they don't risk getting shot at when they sell guns to people. These bases need to control gun laws and install surveillance cameras all over the place. There needs to be more police officers on bases, or have more of them spawn when you commit a crime. Your reputation and faction standings with the merchant guild or merchants, and the mercenary guild or hunters, should also decrease each time you kill one of their guild masters respectively.

General / Where can I find older versions of this game?
« on: December 01, 2010, 10:28:19 PM »
Is it still possible to get them or downgrade your version? I'm just wondering because I'm curious about the versions before V0.7 which I haven't played.

General / Is this cheating?
« on: November 28, 2010, 06:26:21 PM »
I constantly use the save/loading trick  to get the results I want, to avoid alerting the police officers when I'm on a base massacre, or to avoid the criminal offence penalties. But then again I suppose most people use this trick all the time in video games anyway.

Bugs / Grenades in backpack not exploding.
« on: November 27, 2010, 10:54:54 PM »
After you set the timer of a grenade, you can place it in your backpack to completely stop the countdown/detonation time completely.

This bug allows you to save up grenades that are about to explode. So the moment you whip out that smoke grenade, bam you get an instant smoke-screen that also conveniently follows you. This allows you to be able to escape most emergency situations in combat too easily.

Furthermore, you can also make hand grenades literally explode on impact when you throw them, though it's much trickier. Basically, you take the hand grenade out of your backpack before entering combat mode, and throw it at someone.

Shouldn't the grenades explode in your bag, or have smoke coming out instead? Actually, instead of smoke coming out of your backpack, perhaps you can leave a trail of smoke instead? Obviously, a hand grenade exploding in your backpack would be fatal, so that one would be fine the way it is.   :)

Development Discussion and Suggestions / Hotkeys.
« on: November 27, 2010, 10:15:09 PM »
I'm suggesting that we have hotkeys for a couple of simple things such as the Quine 5000 functions, choosing left/right weapon in combat, targeting body parts in melee combat, choosing to kick with left/right foot, yes/no hotkeys for NPCs, navigation around equipment store menu, saving outside the Quine, loading outside the Quine etc.

Hotkeys will save us a lot of time, and we already have plenty of unused keys in this game so why not?

Everything Else / Why am I picking up trojan horses from the wiki??
« on: November 27, 2010, 10:01:33 PM »
I don't know if it's my anti-virus is just giving me false-positives, but it's detecting trojan horses from those "reserve copy page" links on the ASCII Sector wiki. FireFox is also telling me that those are suspected attack sites. It's probably only some of them, since they all link you to different places and I've only tried three of them.

General / Couple of noob questions, not sure here.
« on: November 27, 2010, 12:59:12 AM »
Hey guys, so I'm new and decided to check this game out and it's pretty good.

Where can you buy/obtain medikits, or are they not implemented yet?

Do you prefer the Nexus or Pegasus?

What's a fast way of making money?

Also, about the "faction territorial control" thing, can you capture territory for your faction?
