CK, just looking at your last status update in the development updates thread...

Do the fleets move on the map while the player is in autopilot or do they only appear on the [N]av display?

An idea I had while responding to Christian's "future of ascii sec" post prompted this...

Those were scripted and I don't exactly want that...but a (possibly) procedurally generated series of systems which need to be explored, charted, mapped, and colonized could be a powerful bit of storyline which gives great replay value.

That is, if you could be contracted to help with the exploration of the new systems, then get follow on missions to chart/map them, then survey planets and warp points, then assist in the planting of a new colony structure...well, it would be quite a fun sequence of missions. You could also just fly out there as far as your fuel would let you go and see what you find. Maybe you could find the occasional exploration service rep and be able to offer up new nav data for a fee.

Another idea...one of the things we got off talking about in another thread on this general forum was older games...my fave is Alien Legacy. One of the things I love most about it is exploring the planetary bodies by surveying and exploring the surface. A game could have that as a small component of play and you could lose me for hours in that.

General / Special 'named' bases?

So, in the original privateer, there were a handful of 'special named bases' which had special characteristics.

Special named bases included:

"New Constantinople"
"Perry Naval Base"
"New Detroit"
"Oxford"

Everything else was a named refinery, agricultural, mining, pirate, or pleasure base.

What are the special named bases in AS and what would be their equivalent in Priv?  If they have no Equivalent, what's their inspiration or conception?

New Beijing = New Constantinople?
New Frankfort = New Detroit?
Loye & Haack = Perry?
Ganim = Oxford?

In the latest five system expansion, CK added "Stille"

What's special about it?  It's not apparently a standard planet (refinery, agriculture, etc.)

Any others I'm not thinking of?

It occurred to me last night...why don't enemy ships carry disabler missiles or EMP torps?

Is it just that I haven't encountered them?

It would be amazing to be "disabled" by a pirate or Kilrathi and boarded...then be able to fight them off, loot them, etc.

Bugs / commodity exchange - price not matching list price

I'm in New Beijing, trying to sell advanced fuels to New Beijing commodity exchange.  

The list price is 497.xx...but my inventory below says I can sell for exactly 20 credits less (477.xx)

Bug or feature?

I have a save file and a couple of movies (I took a movie of the price diff, then went to the hotel for 8 hours, came back and found the same 20 credit difference with different price numbers).

Bugs / graphics bug after exiting combat mode

I found a bug where, after leaving something like my second combat encounter on the pirate base in Rynkel, the graphics around the periphery of the screen went all fuzzy.  After leaving the base, I observed no further problems with graphical fuzziness, so it was something caused right around that combat encounter.

I was able to quickly hit F6 and take a movie of it...I also have a save from that base from just before I started raising hell.

General / I had fun with my first successful bounty mission

So I had a bounty to go to Aoleus and kill "Shong Chang" who is guarded by two body guards

The first couple of times I tried this, he was at a table in the bar with about 15 other NPCs and I never got him lower than 20% health before the mob ripped me to pieces.  I tried pulse rifles/pistols, I tried melee, I scored a few critical shots! (BETWEEN THE EYES (!))  

By the way, a .22 high velocity round at short range right between the eyes...had better be fatal.  We can argue about lasers or pulse this/that, but a high vel .22 to the middle of the head should be incapacitating.

Anyways...I re-loaded and changed my tactic...I flew to hooper's hope and re-equipped with a smoke grenade and a hand grenade to go with my machine pistol and .45cal rifle.

I dropped the smoke grenade in the bar..and suddenly noticed that the guy was not in the bar (facepalm).  However, he WAS standing outside the exchange across the station, so I let the smoke cloud expand to the doorway of the bar, then stood inside the edge of the smoke and tossed my hand grenade across the station.  It landed one square from him and blew him to kingdom come.

Nobody saw me or reported me and his body guards were impotently running about.   Oh and he had 4400 credits on him. :D

Bugs / No personal locker in a Demon?

I just upgraded from the tarsus to a demon.  I found what looks like the equipment locker at the very rear of the ship but it won't activate when I bump into it.

Am I missing something or does the Demon not have a locker?
